Pirate Latitudes by Michael Crichton - E Book Review

Pirate Latitudes: A Novel Kindle Edition by Michael Crichton - E Book Review

A daring tale of pirates, monsters and treasure told by the master of thrillers, the late Michael Crichton who knows how to spin intrigue, plans, colorful characters and suspense to create true masterpieces.

The story is about Captain Charles Hunter who is hired to go off after Spanish treasure but little does he know who and what will oppose him on the difficult quest, from enemy warships to undersea monsters. Captain Hunter is perhaps one of the most intelligent officers sailing the sees and he will require every bit of his ingenuity to overcome the obstacles in his and his crew's way.

There are some who say that this book lacks the attention to detail and the extensive research he put in others of this book but on the other side this makes for a fast, fun read on a book that is (the way it is now) designed to entertain and it does this admirably.

Another thing is the way the book's plot has familiar and loved themes that frequently occur in pirate and adventure book, creating a book that is both familiar and known while at the same time it managed to surprise and delight.

Perhaps one of the most enjoyable things in the book is the way Captain Hunter manages to squirm his way out of impossible situation after the other, even if he makes his crew take out the cannons from their ship and place them on a sand bank. It is no too realistic but it is sure fun to read!

One cannot forget that the book has waited to be found on Crichton's computer after his death. It is a good and enjoyable book but it lacks some of the originality and flair that are abundantly found in other works by the author.
