The Girl on the Train: A Novel Kindle Edition by Paula Hawkins - E Book Review

The Girl on the Train: A Novel Kindle Edition by Paula Hawkins - E Book Review

Summary:
The Girl on the Train is one of the most thrilling and interesting thrillers of the year, 2015. This is perhaps the best ever debut book that has been done by Paula Hawkins. This thriller is filled with mysteries, the reader is faced with uncertainty on every turn and the suspense and surprises follow the reader to the very end of the book.

Plot:
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins has an amnesia thriller plot. The book skilfully follows three girls whose lives are interlinked in the story: Anna, Megan and Rachel. The main focus is on Rachel; An alcoholic who suffers from a miserable life after breaking up with her husband. She commutes into London every day and watches people in the train. They seem to be perfect in her eyes. One of these people is Megan and that's how those two characters meet for the first time. The third character, Anna, is a girlfriend of Rachel's ex, Luke. The plot is full of twists and quite a lot of criminal cases.  We won't go into detail about it because it is the best for readers to dive into this book spoiler-free. It is a big pleasure to discover how the story develops by yourself.

Pros:
The book has a lot of positive points and it is hard to count them all. All the characters in the story are beautifully described. Although at first Rachel doesn't seem to be a nice person, the reader comes to really like her in time and overall she is really a great protagonist.

As the story develops the reader's suspicions shift from one character to another. That's a clear sign that the story is compelling and that Paula Hawking, though The Girl on the Train is her debut as a writer, did a great job writing this thriller. In this amazing story nothing is certain and there are many surprises to the very end.

Cons:
The Girl on the Train is quite extraordinary in that is has very little to no weak points. If stretching it a little, we might point out that several of the twists and surprises in the book were more obvious than the rest and could be guess .
