See Me Kindle Edition by Nicholas Sparks - E Book Review

See Me Kindle Edition by Nicholas Sparks - E Book Review

Summary:
Collin's and Maria's love seems perfect and growing steadily since the chance encounter that brought them together in the first place. But now, dark things from Maria's past come to haunt them, putting their love to ever increasing tests that will make them start believing in themselves and their love or they will lose everything.

Plot:
Collin is a man haunted by his past and giving everything in order to succeed now. He stands to lose everything if he fails in his present course in life and he is determined to not let it happen.

Maria is the daughter of immigrants to has achieved some measure of success in life but still dark things from her past haunt her and make her leave her job in a prestigious firm and return to her little home town.

Collin and Maria meet by chance and against all odds fall in love. In fact, their love and attachment grow at such a rate they even start contemplating tying the knot and marrying, believing this is it.

However, life has sore tests in store for them as their love must stand against those dark shadows rising out of Maria's past.

Pros:
The characters in See Me are very human and act naturally. They are not just larger than life figures but seem to be normal, regular human beings struggling with problems that are mostly not of their doing. This results in the reader developing a strong attachment for Collin and Maria.

Another great thing about See Me is the way the characters, plot, and the beautiful and scenic backgrounds all merge into one book that is very hard to put down.

Cons:
The characters are a bit too flat. They didn't seem to develop enough during the book and they were a bit single dimensional. This made the attachment between them a bit less believable that it should have been.

Dirty English Kindle Edition by Ilsa Madden-Mills - E Book Review

Dirty English Kindle Edition by Ilsa Madden-Mills - E Book Review

Summary:
Elizabeth's life was going from bad to worse, on more fronts than one. Then, on one frat party, she saw Declan for the first time. Heavily tattooed, working as an underground fighter, with a brooding persona that isn't looking for new relationships after his last girlfriend cheated on him, he is quite a bad boy. Will they be able to make it work or will they end up hurt even more?

Plot:
Elisabeth is hurt and damaged. Her parents, mainly her mom, are causing more damage instead of trying to heal and mend, all suffering from their own problems and emotional blocks. Then, Elisabeth meets Declan.

The very personification of the term 'bad boy', Declan is surprisingly emotional, real and sweet and he can see beyond her scars to the see the spirit within. In fact, he even tells her he loves her scars who are trophies of survival.

But it remains to be seen if these two lost souls will be able to forge a little paradise between them.

Pros:
A major pro has to be Declan himself, who manages to be both strong and forbidden yet ever soft and understanding, quite a combination packaged inside a well muscled, battle hardened tattooed body. No one can avoid falling in love with him, mostly as early as the second chapter.

Another major pro must be the drama, love and the energy in the book and the writing. Nothing is ever peaceful with these two souls and the love affair between them is a living, red hot, facination thing.

And we cannot forget that this is in fact a book about mending and healing, showing us how a broken heart can be mended and made whole again with the right amount of love and attention.

Cons:
Reading about damaged characters may be a bit tiresome in times, seeing the way she keeps doing the thing that damaged her in the first place, even though this is woven tightly into the plot and story.

Wrong Kindle Edition by Jana Aston - E Book Review

Wrong Kindle Edition by Jana Aston - E Book Review

Summary:
A kind of strange romantic story between Sophie and Luke. She isn't convinced he is the one for her but she will give it a chance, hoping that Mr. Wrong will be the right one for her this time. A little dirty, a little sexy, and very unusual, this story flows and is surprisingly emotional and not tortured.

Plot:
Sophie has fantasies about a well dressed man entering her coffee shop. She is convinced that her fantasies will remain exactly that, safe fantasies, when she suddenly comes face to face with him again when she suddenly realizes he is the gynecologist about to exam her while she's sitting in THE chair!

This is start of a different sort of romantic story, a story involving two people who are willing to explore their own and their partners' limits while they get even more emotionally attached.

Pros:
Actually, kind of rarity in romance novels and books focusing about relationships in general, Wrong is funny. It is filled with humor but not the kind that will make the readers roll on the floor with laughter. It is humor that will make readers read the book with a perpetual smile on their faces.

Another great thing about this book is the way to plot flows. The book is very easy to read and more than one reader had finished it over the night in one standing. Being uncomplicated does not mean the book is not fun, quite the contrary.

Last but not least, the book is sexy. Without going into too many details here, it is enough to say that the book has and is about sex, and sex that explores the limits but without going the way fifty shades of grey went.

Cons:
Although enjoyable, it has been said that the book might have been more enjoyable. As it is, the book has sections that are very similar to fifty shades of grey and some points in the plot can be guessed in advance with ease.

Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, Book 1: The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan - E Book Review

Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, Book 1: The Sword of Summer (Rick Riordan's Norse Mythology) Kindle Edition by Rick Riordan - E Book Review

Summary:
This book stands alone in Riordan's fantasy world. A new reader can start with it and does not need to read the previous books that deal with heroes from Egyptian, Greek or Roman mythology. The book follows Maguns whose father is a Norse God. As consequence, the book which is told with humor follows and describes the belief systems of Norse mythology, as well as its pantheon of gods.

Plot:
The book and the new series follow Maguns Chase, Annabeth Chase's cousin (who does in fact appear in the book). Magnus, a 16-year-old kid lives on the streets of Boston since wolves with glowing eyes killed his mother two years ago. Now, he is suddenly targeted by fearsome foes who unexpectedly, for this kind of books, manage to find and kill him.

However, Magnus is resurrected and is recruited by Odin's army to train and prepared for the apocalypse, Ragnarok. Magnus's legacy is made clear to him but there is also a prophecy, predicting that Magnus will either hasten to arrival of Ragnarok or will prevent it.

Pros:
First of all, Riordan gets a chance to go into Norse mythology with the book and the whole new series. The prophecy takes Magnus and the readers through two of the nine worlds, where he meets gods (Odin, Thor, Loki, Frey, Freya), befriends a sword, battles with giants, runs from Valkyries, and fights to make sure Fenris, the wolf harbinger of Ragnarok, is not freed. The book is fun to read and the readers are swept into the adventure.

Humor is a great thing to be found in the book and Riordan manages to both put it in without making the book a comic, without having to let go of the seriousness of the task Magnus is faced with.

Of course, it's fun to see how the rag-tag team Magnus collects around himself will manage to survive in the perilous quest ahead, using the skill some didn't even know they had ....

Cons:
The book is very fun to read and a must read for all of Riordan's fans. However, the book more or less broadly follows the same plot line as others of Riordan's books and does not really stray into uncharted terriotory.

The Girl in the Spider's Web: A Lisbeth Salander novel Kindle Edition by David Lagercrantz

The Girl in the Spider's Web: A Lisbeth Salander novel, continuing Stieg Larsson's Millennium Series Kindle Edition by David Lagercrantz

Summary:
The Girl in the Spider's Web is the number four on the continuation of the well-known book and movie “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”, that focuses on the characters of Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist.

Plot:
The story begins with the return of Frans Balder to Sweden and their calling from the American National Security Agency and the Sweden's National Defence Radio Establishment. He will collaborate to take down a criminal organization known as the "Spider Society."

Pros:
An excellent fast-paced novel full of technicalities and numerology that will excite people that like to geek out with hackers and computers. This story was long promised to be delivered, and the book made justice by fulfilling all expectations. An immaculate execution, and a phenomenal read.

There is less violence than in the previous books, but there was never a sacrifice in action, which is something very hard to accomplish. The story builds up very quickly making it a real page-turner kind of book. In some aspected it could even be said that it improved the writing of the previous books, without sacrificing a compelling connection with the previous books. There is a variety of new characters that invigorated the story and gave them a great spin.

Regarding the editing, you can tell that the author took care of writing in a succinct and clear way. That makes for a short but powerful reading. And last but not least, it keeps the suspense the whole time!

Cons:
The style and development of the story is clearly different from the original trilogy and makes for a very different reading experience but it was nevertheless very fun to read and equally interesting. Can’t wait to the next one.

The Good Neighbor Kindle Edition by A. J. Banner - E Book Review

The Good Neighbor Kindle Edition by A. J. Banner - E Book Review

Summary:
A suspense-thriller story of the intricacies of living on a model modern society, that reminds us that we should not be deceived by appearances, and that humans are very complex by nature.
Plot:

Sarah and her new husband Dr. Johnny McDonald are living a model life in a fancy neighbourhood in Washington, but suddenly things get out of control and tragedy and deception take over their lifes. The couple discover the hard way that appearances are not to be relied upon, and end up questioning how much can you really get to know someone else.

Pros:
A carefully executed suspense story from a relatively new author. The story is written in a way so that the reader goes from one hint to the next one until the truth is finally released. A very entertaining read, and a must for people that love good old suspense.

This is the type of book that is very hard to leave and come back to it later. The pace of the story is spectacularly fast and the writing is very clear and to the point. The end is not predictable at all, which is something that is appreciated by anyone who reads a lot of suspense.

Cons:
Although a great attention to details is appreciated along with a comprehensive list of events giving context to the current chapter, it was felt that there was too much going on. At the climax of the book we literally had to go back to double check that our facts were straight. There is a limit of how much can be under development so that you always keep tabs on what's going on, otherwise you end up lost and confused.

Bad Boy Daddy Kindle Edition by Chance Carter - E Book Review

Bad Boy Daddy Kindle Edition by Chance Carter - E Book Review

Summary:
An enjoyable read in the contemporary romance genre about being a bad boy in today’s world.

Plot:
The story is about Jackson, your typical young-adult member of a motorcycle club. He has a strong spirit, and likes things to be under his terms, and is willing to fight for it. He meets a girl, Faith, and decides to help her be free and run away together.

Pros:
The first novel of Chance Carter, and for a first-timer self-published author the story is a win. He speaks in the language of her audience and tells the story in a natural. At some points, the story felt like an autobiography due to the attention to details. Also, full of humor and very spice lines that will get you a good laugh.

It is uncommon to read romance novels from a male author, and, also, to be about manhood, all from the perspective of the male character. That was interesting, and not very exploited in regular short-novels like this one.

Cons:
There is rookie writing mistakes all over the book. Therefore, it was a non-smooth read. There was need to do so many obligated stops to double-read sentences, which was unpleasant. All this could have been avoided if an experienced editor had at least glance trough the book. Too bad for a story with so much personality and potential. Moreover, the lack of structure in the writing felt like there was too much repetition, and lack of details thereof. We could appreciate the efforts of a new writer, but once has to be professional and don’t neglect that the readers pay the same for a well-written book than for an attempt of a novel. Finally, the ending was appealing but very predictable and told in a rush.

The Prettiest One: A Thriller Kindle Edition by James Hankins - E Book Review

The Prettiest One: A Thriller Kindle Edition by James Hankins - E Book Review

Summary:
A fast-paced thriller, with a great deal of suspense that will keep you on the edge from start to finish.

Plot:
The book is about the story Caitlin Sommers, that suddenly started by waking up in a strange garage bathed in blood and the journey that she went through to discover why this’s happened to her. This journey takes her back all the way to her childhood and to places she has never been to.

Pros:
A must read for the type of folks that get excited with intricate mysteries and physiological thrillers. The story is not the typical novel where there is an obvious ending that makes it worth it just to keep reading. The author maintained the drama until the last page of the book, and I never felt bored or disappointed with the reading, but very much intrigued and entertained.

A faultless execution of complex characters with a solid and old-school type of narrative. The story is full of twists, which makes it very enjoyable to read and very appealing for voracious readers. Humor is also present in the story that closes the circle for a book that triggers a full range of emotion in the readers.

Cons:
The very feature that makes this book unique also makes it hard to believe: the unpredictability. There were situations that didn’t felt natural to a credible narrative. Also for to this reason, it is difficult to connect with the story, and you end up reading just for the sake of knowing what the destiny of each character was for each character. That is not a compelling reason to keep reading. The book felt like engineered to have unpredictable sequences just to keep the lector reading.

Last Immortal Dragon: Dragon Shifter Romance Kindle Edition by T. S. Joyce - E Book Review

Last Immortal Dragon: Dragon Shifter Romance Kindle Edition by T. S. Joyce - E Book Review

Summary:
Last Immortal Dragon is yet another hot shifter romance from the author T.S. Joyce, who is well known for her powerful and passionate stories that leave the readers breathless. Joyce's main characters always seem to be alpha-males going through tough times and strong independent women in passionate relationships, hardened by the paths they have to walk together. Last Immortal Dragon is no exception with its main characters Damon and Clara with whom the readers  fall in love from the beginning.

The great thing about this book is that it can be read as a standalone Dragon Shifter Romance or as part of the Gray Back Bears Series. This means that even if you have not had the pleasure of reading one of Joyce's previous masterpieces you will still be able to dive into the story without worrying about missing details from it. But if you have read some of the shapeshifter series by the author, make sure you get the book as it will absolutely blow your mind.

Plot:The story centers around Damon Day, the last immortal dragon shifter, who is living simple life in the mountains. But the nearby bear crews have been breaking down his walls little by little, without even realizing how dangerous this is. His life has made him cold and he thought that it would be better if he does not let anybody in his heart. Still Damon wishes for a child of his own.

Soon his whole world is about to change as his best friend, Mason, brings him Clara Sutterfield, an alpha bear shifter, to fulfill his only wish. Clara thinks she is there to help a man with his ghost problem using her strong psychic abilities, but little does she know what a big turn her life will soon take. Damon knows this woman from his distant past and she knows him from her visions and thinks there could be a reason for them to meet. The more they get to know each other, the deeper their connection grows, although none of them realizes how dangerous is the path they are about to walk together.

Pros:
The book provides a great story filled with passion, mystery and adventure. The supernatural background of the characters is making it even more interesting and intriguing for the readers, as the readers are more than eager to learn more about the characters and unravel the way they are connected to each other. The action itself is fast paced, without letting the audience take a breath and let go of the book until they find out what the fate of both shifters will be.

Cons:
The only downside of the book is that it comes a little short and leaves the audience thirsty for more. The intriguing background of the characters could’ve been unraveled some more as the book leaves a lot of questions about the mysterious past of Damon unanswered. But maybe Joyce has that in mind and we will get the chance to unravel them in the future.

You Don't Want To Know Kindle Edition by Lisa Jackson - E Book Review

You Don't Want To Know Kindle Edition by Lisa Jackson - E Book Review

Summary:
There are many things that make a good book. In this case, Lisa Jackson has successfully created a flowing plot, very clean and concise that is uninterrupted throughout the book, making reading the book fun and easy. (Easy is not a bad word in this case …)

The Plot:
In the book, we follow the events unfolding around Ava Garrison. Her son, Noah, was lost two years ago and is missing, his whereabouts unknown. No body has been recovered and everybody believes he is dead after falling off a dock.

During those two years, the period just after her son's disappearance, Ava Garrion's situation goes from bad to worse, going in and out of Seattle mental institutions. Even though her situation worries everyone around her, including her husband and her treating doctors, no one seems able to help her.

And now, two years after Noah's disappearance, even though no body has been found, Garrison must come to terms with the possibility of him being alive, as well as the possibility of being dead. The nightmare engulfing Garrison is coming to an end and she must realize the shocking truth of his son’s disappearance.

Pros:
One of the redeeming qualities of this book is its plot. First of all, the plot is simple and easy to follow, flowing continually without any interruptions or turns that will complicate things.
Another great thing about the book is its language. The author, Lisa Jackson, has made an effort to use simple, day to day language in the book. Consequently, everyone can understand and feel what is going on with Garrison and the language makes everything more pronounced.

The book is also filled with suspense, readers hooked by the plot, needing to know what will happen next and how the mystery will be resolved..

Cons:
The simple and flowing plot has many merits but some feel that the book is too long. Although this allows the author to expand upon Garrison's situation and feelings, nevertheless the book could have been easily half as long.
